when i started this book, i was immediately invested. the writing style drew me in. things were fast paced and saeris’s voice felt so naturally distinguished and fresh. and then i read some reviews that were not very favorable. i can’t tell if i let that get in my head and influence how i was feeling for a while because i was starting to become bored and disinterested after the first few chapters. when i thought we were about to get into the nitty gritty of the story, it seemed like the pace started to slow. i was impatiently waiting for things to pick up and get better because i really didn’t want to DNF this book.
i think it did get much better. things started to pick back up, and i personally don’t think they fell off again after that. it felt as though it went back to being the book i initially started. i think i just needed to let go of the biases that was forming in my mind based on others’ opinions because i ended up really enjoying reading this. i like the story, the characters, and the world building.
the ending definitely makes me want more, and i’m very excited to read the second book!
