I saw the trailer for the movie and decided to give colleen a try, despite me not being too sure since I remember having my own mixed opinions on it starts with us and it ends with us.
This book made me feel so many things, the main thing is that I realized how far a mother’s love can go, and the extremes mothers will go to yearn/despise. For me, this was a really good book. I felt myself yearning for every chapter and wanting to see how the end looked like.
In my opinion colleen did a great job at making the reader feel captivated while still adding her normal touch (which i’m still trying to discover if I like). The characters are definitely her type of characters, but I feel like she did not expound on the characters traits, their looks, their personalities etc. It felt very rushed and not well written. BUT I do still think it is a good story that explores many topics.
Topics/themes I found: daughter/mother relationships, heartbreak, prison, yearning, helplessness, healing, wrong set of cards handed, resilience.
