Overall I enjoyed this read. It delves into many different ghost stories from across North America throughout history and the thoughtful responses from the authors that traveled to those regions to learn more about how the stories came to be told in a historical context. They range from fairly tame to triggering content and all in between. One of the last stories in the book really was quite upsetting to read about for me personally, but reading about the potential for new types of ghost stories to emerge as more deaths occur on highways and freeways with the advent of car travel was interesting to ponder. Overall an interesting read and recommended for those interested in all things gothic!

I like my castles cold, my moors windswept, and my heroines swooning.

An introduction to the Horror genre, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

I finished this book and almost immediately wanted to read it again. The character perspective and time jumps from chapter to chapter did sometimes become confusing, but overall I really enjoyed this book.
