it's a shame this experience was so unenjoyable for me because this book has a unique premise, a beautiful setting, charming characters, and fun dialogue. but the writing unfortunately dragged me down to the pit of despair. the timeline and character connections are so dizzying and kept me in the dark just enough to make me irritated. i was completely at a loss and struggled to create an image in my head of what was happening. therefore if someone asked me to summarize what i read, i'd be at a loss. it felt slow yet also whipped my focus all around in a disorienting manner. i'm sure this is partly me continuing to try and fail with magical realism but we weren't compatible at all (shout out heated rivalry which i'm still reeling from)

This one didn’t hit the way I wished it did. I couldn’t get past the writing. It seemed juvenile at best (for characters in late twenties/early thirties). the dialogue felt stilted and robotic, and not how actual people interact. Wish I loved it like most people seem to, but I do like most romances more on the realistic side.
