I LOVED the middle part of this book. I found the story immersive and I was rooting for the characters. That being said, the end was a huge let down. The sudden increase of magical realism to be confusing, and the characters didn't seem to have any growth as a result of the circumstances. I was also put off by the main characters responses to the ending events. They come across as quite timid and unsure, and I don't think their actions at the end of the story made sense with their personalities.

I really, really wanted to love this book. It's cozy and so detailed - I felt like I was living inside Fin's kitchen. Unfortunately, the more the book progressed the more unsure I felt about the writing. While the plot is good, it's missing that last bit of professional editing that I look for in a book. It reminded me more of a fanfiction(which isn't bad! but not what I was looking for). I also felt like the supporting characters relied too heavily on cliches and lacked deep or creative development.
