I considered DNFing, but I was listening to the audiobook (per a recommendation) and so it was easier to just finish.
This book had such a cute premise but a terrible follow through.
Lucie (already annoyed at the quirky spelling) goes on the show to get dates… and then barely dates?! The Chevy truck guy was such an obvious meet cute but he gets pushed aside until the very end. Rosie’s dad deserved better.
Aiden. Sometimes I just need less trauma in a MMC. Get some therapy dude. And call your mom.
Greyson and Mateo. 10/10
Maya was fine. Cute, nerdy. But was presented as both “such a cool kid” and “way into LotR”. Just didn’t feel like a real kid.
Maybe the book wouldn’t have been as frustrating as the audiobook. Hearing romance scenes out loud is so cringy to me. “I need to spend more time with his biceps” 😫
I also think only one POV would have been better. They were both into each other THE ENTIRE BOOK. It just felt so clunky knowing they had the hots for each other the whole time. The greater, fictional Baltimore area knew it too. And so the shoe drop wasn’t about Lucie dating someone else and Aiden realizing he could lose her… it was Lucie overhearing Aiden and Maggie talking about her leaving the show? Followed by poor Chevy truck guy innocently calling in.
Also just continuing to confirm how much I don’t like the aggressively protective male trope. Especially when she’s not in a relationship with them yet.

I’ve read all but one Beth O’Leary book looking for the same delight I found in The Flatshare. I think Swept Away is the closest.
While the whole lost at sea thing is my personal worst nightmare, I found it a good mix of adventure and romance.
The Flatshare was romance forged in an unlikely situation and this was too… with some trauma bonding tossed in.

As someone who doesn't like any form of suspense, I did enjoy this book. But I would definitely classify this as Mystery/Suspense/Thriller Lite I was never really in suspense or concerned for the characters. It was interesting, I liked the flash-backs to other jobs Lucca had done. I wish some of the final reveals had been told in flashbacks (showing) instead of just telling us what had happened. Definitely two twists I didn't see coming at the end.

This book is like a blanket of hope. And when I looked up from reading to remember what is actually happening in the world, I wanted to climb into the book and live there. David was an icy delight. Lucy is full of surprises. I wish I could read Sal’s writing, walk through Phee’s forest, smell Talia’s flowers, and befriend Theodore with buttons. Oh, and if Chauncey left a mint on my pillow, I’d let him eat it. I kept imagining Jonathan Bailey as Arthur.

The book I wish I had before, and the book I’m glad I have now. Will definitely need a reread.

I didn't realize this was book 4 in a series. I liked the characters, but not much happens in this book.
I checked out Book 1 by the same author thinking it was a different series, so we'll see how I feel about that. It may end up being a quick DNF.

LOVED Trevor and. Leanne's story. I feel like I can't get into it too much without spoiling it, but I wish there was another book in the series that focused on this coven with the aftermath of Leanne's hard work.

I really liked how this book didn't just pick up where Witch Please ended. I enjoyed the overlap with the switch to Clem's perspective. When reading from Danica's perspective I thought Clem needed to chill out, but this book made me root for team Clem! I thought it was well written in the way I was able to see both POVs between the two.
I was on a plane when I read the plot twist about the origin of the Hunters and it was all I could do to not freak out. A delightful twist I didn't see coming. Enjoyed seeing some of that play out, though I would have enjoyed a book entirely from Gavin's perspective going more in depth.

Like many others, I read this because of how much I loved her fanfic - DMATMOOBIL. I think what drew me into the fanfic so quickly was because I already understood the magical world it was set in.
That in mind, the time it took for me to settle into a new fantasy world wasn't longer than normal, but I guess I wasn't expecting so much new. Deofols, seith, tācn, ect. I appreciated the same enemies to lovers witty dialogue and didn't realize it was only the first in a series so the ending was unexpected. I'm excited to read more and glad she didn't try to condense it all into one book.

Quirky and whimsical and sentimental and a gosh darn delight. One of those books with characters to remind you that there is hope to be found in the darkest of places. My top book club read this year.

A good, standard, fun, and fluffy regency(?) romance. No smut. The weirdest thing was one of the sisters being named Jessica and Ludmilla. Strange pairing.
