i’ve barely started this book and there’s already so much sadness and trauma for these characters

i’m really struggling to enjoy this book, but this isn’t because there’s anything wrong with the book i just feel like i’m too old for it. i do enjoy a YA book, but this one seems to be really targeted at the type of audience i just don’t fit. i imagine younger me would’ve enjoyed this though. the problem is i have bought the entire series so do i bother to read them when i am struggling with book 1.

    book finished ^^

i don’t usually listen to audiobooks bc i have trouble concentrating on it but listening to this on audiobook AS i read along was the perfect fit for me and i enjoyed it more than i thought i would it was kinda scary how disconnected he was with relationships and the whole ‘what does it matter’ thoughts i kind of understand it but isn’t that what makes life, life. for me caring means connection, and i need connection to feel somewhat alive.

i did enjoy the concept of the book and it did feel like it was something i hadn’t read before which was nice. i did find the ending confusing and rushed, it was difficult to keep up with who was who and the family tree. i don’t regret reading it but i wouldn’t rush to recommend it either.
