"I don't know what my favorite book is, either... I can't stand the idea of saying something's my favorite, that this is the best a book can be, when there's so much left to read."
I love this so much.
Admittedly I also don't have a single favorite book, maybe because I've read too many, maybe because I'm a good reader, or maybe because it's just too hard to choose.
There is something inherently optimistic about starting a 300+ page book (or an 8+ hour audiobook) and believing that it could be your favorite, and that's kind of magical.

"I grew up in St. Louis, well a St. Louis suburb."
Does anyone else get irrationally excited when a book mentions your hometown?

Waste of a "stuck on a cruise ship together" premise. Didn't quite live up to the potential of family dynamics. Lack of communication was the central conflict. Good (albeit fleeting) exploration of the weirdness of grief. Unfortunately it just wasn't for me.

This had a little bit of everything: early motherhood, a cult, a podcast, and some is-it-gaslighting-or-is-she-crazy chapters. Slow start and also dragged a bit in the middle, but overall a good read.

This was a quiet coming-of-middle-age story set on a cruise ship. Like an actual cruise, it was lots of small moments and enjoyable overall.

I would have DNF-ed if this weren't a book club pick.
I love a story with unlikeable characters, but everyone here was unlikeable for the sake of being unlikeable. Characters acted inconsistently depending on what the plot needed at the time. The story itself was generally "look at how terrible these people are" with something twisty every 75 pages or so.
