Hello! Iām so thrilled youāve joined the Haunted House Horror Quest!
I love a good haunted house story and I'm so glad I was able to create this quest to be able to discuss it more with all of you! What I love about haunted house books is that they're never just about creaky staircases, shadowy hallways, or things that go bump in the night but they often explore grief, trauma, guilt, family secrets, and the ways the past refuses to stay buried. The house itself often becomes some sort of metaphor or explanation, sometimes it doesn't haha. Sometimes the horror is supernatural, sometimes itās human, and sometimes itās a bit of both.
When I pulled this list together, I really tried to include a variety like the classics you think of when you think haunted house story, modern spins that add freshness, and a few hidden gems you might not have come across yet. If the book is part of a series, youāll only see the first one here to keep things manageable.
And of course, this is just a starting point. Please share your own haunted house favourites in this post so we can keep the forum itself from getting cluttered. Iāll keep adding them if they fit the quest!
So grab a flashlight, ignore the strange noises upstairs, and letās see which haunted stories linger with us the longest..

What's your ideal book length?
OR
If you don't care about the above, what is your ideal chapter length?
For me, I think around 400 pages is my sweet spot, and chapters between 10 and 15 pages let's you get into a nice flow without feeling like you cant take a break.
Edit: I forgot to include: what is your ideal audiobook length?

Dangerous Women
'It seemed to me that anything unpredictable was named dangerous by Gods and men alike. But the word UNPREDICTABLE seemed reserved for women alone. A woman they cannot control, whether Goddess or mortal, is a dangerous woman' Hekate by Nikita Gill. A list of "dangerous" women. Please recommend any dangerous women I missed!
