DNF at 51%. Agh, this just wasn't for me. I just found myself increasingly bored of hearing about how both of them smelt (I get it, Stephen smells of gingerbread!!!), the plot is so low stakes and not important to their love story, and there's only so much oh he doesn't like me and oh she doesn't like me back and forth I can take, so I just wasn't interested in finishing this sadly.

Agh, I really wanted to love this book, so I'm slightly disappointed to be honest.. First of all, Marcellus the octopus was fantastic, and I mean fantastic. He is intelligent, witty, and the real star of this story. His chapters had me laughing and crying, but there was nowhere near enough of him in the book. I wish the author had focused more on the relationship between Tova and Marcellus, as there could have been some impactful parallels between his solitary confinement in his tank, and Tova's feelings of grief and being alone. His and Tova's storyline are the only reason this book received a 4 star rating over a 3 star. Now, what I didn't like; Cameron, the whiny, insufferable, immature, man child. I literally could not stand this character. I think the only time I felt like I could tolerate him was in the final 5 chapters. I think the aim was to have his past be the reason for his childish attitudes and behaviour, however I just feel like it wasn't written too well, as I didn't sympathise with him, I just wanted to speed up the audiobook to get through his chapters quicker. Avery also was a bit of a pointless character imo. And don't even get me started on the awful Scottish accent the narrator did for Ethan.. my god I was so close to DNF. Overall, an emotional and wholesome story with some beautifully written characters, just not all of them!
