Reading Central Asia
A region that shaped world history, produced some of its most luminous poetry, and somehow stayed off most reading lists. A reading list for anyone who realized they knew almost nothing about Central Asia and wanted to fix that. Central Asia includes Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and most of Kazakhstan. Sometimes Afghanistan is also considered a part of it.

My favorite part is the river as a character. She starts off loving people but with the ego of a higher being. Then human experience humbles her, turning that ego into empathy. She changes so much that she grants a boon: bathe in her waters and be freed of your sins. I also loved the complexity and the fighting with moral dilemma. The story was very real in a sense that great humans can also make pretty big mistakes and that ego is bad for humans and goddesses alike. Which said I want to comment that Ganga isn't actually a Goddess in the religion, but she's definitely a divine higher being that humans. But I'm guessing the author thought using Goddess would make things simpler.

What are some of your favorite PB features? Can be well known ones, ones you think more people should check out, etc!
Personally, I love the daily emojis, which feels so silly. But I get excited to see what the new emoji is each day and what books and lists go along with it! I feel like I’ve found books and lists that I wouldn’t have found any other way!
Much love and happy reading!
