This was such an entertaining and easy read. The pacing was really good and kept me engaged and I literally devoured this book in one sitting. The setting in an (seemingly) empty house during a snowstorm worked perfectly and gave me the chills. I also liked the included transcripts as I LOVE mixed media in thriller and crime stories.
Nevertheless, there were a few things I didnāt like. First of all, choosing a first person narration made absolutely no sense considering the big plot twist at the end. I donāt want to spoil anything, but it felt random and almost like a completely different book. There were just too many inconsistencies and plot holes. In my opinion, most of this could have been avoided if the author had chosen a third person perspective instead.
Secondly, the characters were extremely bland and kept repeating the same things over and over again. At times, it felt like every character had a specific catchphrase.
Overall, I had a fun time reading the book, but the ending ruined it a bit. Since the reveal is pretty crucial for me when Iām rating thrillers, Iām giving this one 3 stars. I still recommend reading it, just keep in mind that the ending probably wonāt be for everyone.

If It Makes You Happy was the perfect romcom with cozy fall vibes and probably one of the best romance books Iāve read this year.
First of all, I was immediately attached to both main characters and could sympathise with their struggles. Cliff and Michelle were very different from each other, yet they fit together perfectly. Their strangers-to-friends-to-lovers journey was truly heartwarming, and I loved how they helped each other overcome their insecurities.
Cliff was the best book boyfriend ever! He is such a great girl dad and his scenes with his daughters were incredibly touching. Michelle, the new inn owner, was a bit more closed off at first, but it was great to see her slowly come out of her shell and start to integrate into the small-town community. I especially appreciated the portrayal of grief and guilt though her character so much.
I also love me some small-town and Gilmore Girls vibes and setting the story in the 90s made it even more perfect. So, if youāre a Gilmore Girls fan like me and looking for a cozy romance with loveable but also complex characters, I highly recommend giving If It Makes You Happy a try.
