Despite a slow start (let's be real, first 2/3), I really enjoyed this book. Sally Rooney is incredible at character portraits and dialogue. She really understands the layers and layers of emotional baggage behind even the most mundane behaviors.
I was drawn in by Ivan from the start and disgusted by Peter. Ivan's chapters kept me going, and Peter's meandering, stream-of-consciousness chapters dragged. Until, in the last 30%, I realized that Peter had snuck up on me! He's so human, and not only was I rooting for their tender, messy relationship as brothers to heal but also just for him to find peace.
As a book about "grief, love, and family," I found that grief was where this book excelled and had something new to say. Grief wove its delicate tendrils across every scene, at time visible, at times hidden, always felt.
Also--can I just say that I wrote a poetry thesis in college that I titled "Cadenza," so I see you Ms Rooney on selecting "Intermezzo."

im so glad i kept reading this even tho my attention span is so bad and i wanted to stop reading bc it felt slow. but it was so rewarding! i loved this book and it will stick with me forever i think i loved the character exploration the alternating perspective the detailed descriptions of everything even thinking patterns and slight gestures it felt very complimentary to the scene in a tasteful way it was so beautifully written

i like this book so far but the constant jumping between “this summer” and the MILLION summers ago pisses me off… like i just want to know what happens now, we move 5 steps forward then take 9 summers back its kind of annoying

Finally starting this after hearing so much about it and it’s absolutely gut wrenching from the first line. Excited to go on this ride!

New user - love the shelf options, and especially the DNF and Paused. I imported my data so have a bunch on my TBR…would love to hear how people differentiate TBR/Interested to themselves! Or if they have any custom shelves they are particularly proud of :)
