I'm intrigued so far, it seems like a smart book. But the American humour, as well as vocabulary (like "heck"), are grating on me a little. 😶

This was a beautiful, heartfelt story. I only heard of The Lion Women of Tehran recently, but I figured it was a good time to pick it up. I've also been wanting to learn more about Iran, so this gave me a good opportunity to look things up as I read.
As this book goes over multiple decades, it turned out to be a good way to get a general idea of the different events and how Iranians felt. I obviously don't know how accurate it all is, and would love to continue learning so I can understand better.
The writing wasn't overly complicated; it's easy to follow and relatively simple. I did find it a bit flat sometimes, which is why it's not a higher rating. However, the plot was beautiful and inspiring, with some very tough events and real life struggles.
I thought the friendship between Ellie and Homa was incredibly heartwarming; everyone needs a friend like Homa! She's a fighter, she defends the people she loves no matter what, and she stands for the Iranian people at all times despite her own struggles. Ellie did not deserve her a lot of the time.
Ellie's mum was a very good character too, she's narcissistic but she surprises you with her heart. People aren't black or white; at first I found myself thinking "she is a bad person", but where do we draw the line between good and bad? She did good, and she did bad, just like most people.
Oh, one of the stars of this book, for me, was the Persian food. I haven't tried most of the foods mentioned in this book. But I want to try it all: ghotab, shirazi salad, ghormeh sabzi herb khoresh, aush soup, fesenjoon stew. I'd love to try a vegan version of all of these. 💖

I've never tried ghotab, but this makes me want to try to make some so bad! They sound amazing.
