I feel so silly saying this but I really don’t like the size of this book. It’s too big for my small hands to hold comfortably lol at least it’s not a long book

i knew, from the very first line, that this book was written for me and that was both a cathartic and terrifying experience.
i have tried to be a weird, sad girl book lover for years now and nothing has impacted me the way this story has. maybe bc it’s the intersection of chronic illness, theatre kid antics, and shakespearean drama (all things im very familiar with) but, my god, i was absolutely gripped from beginning to end. this book is incredibly immersive and so endlessly weird and, at times, horrifying but also funny??
i could spend all day going on about the many, many emotions i felt during this experience, but i do want to take a second to appreciate how mona awad was so unafraid to explore what it’s like being a woman in pain and a woman in general, really. not being believed, being scared that you’re too much or too little, feeling like you’ve lost your purpose, performing for others’ comfort, are all things so many of us can relate to, and miranda’s story serves as a brutal reflection of how women are often treated.
so, yeah. this weird ass book has clawed its way into my heart and burrowed itself there. highly recommend if you’re into feminist psychological horrors with a shakespearean twist and the actual wildest ending 😭

love when i read a book that makes me feel existential as hell badum tss
seriously, i had no idea what i was getting into when i picked this up, and i feel like that’s exactly how you should approach this book. short and not so sweet, but i loooove when books actually make me stop and think. ponder a bit perhaps. 🤔
now, if you’ll excuse me, i’ll be contemplating the meaning of life and my place in it
