ali hazelwood you’ve done it again

i wasn’t sure how well this would tackle age gaps and problematic relationships, and it took me until the end of this book to decide on my opinion— but, frankly, i fucking loved this book. i loved maya and conor and i loved seeing rue and eli and minami again. you can tell ali put a lot of thought into exploring the nuances and controversies of the relationship between maya and conor, and didn’t shy away from the issues it does raise. but this is a love story and i felt that conor and maya got the HEA they deserved, whilst also exploring them as individual characters, fleshing them out, and touching on their own complexities separately.

i’m going to have to come back and write a thorough review but i just finished this and OH MY GOD !!! OH MY GOD?????? i loved this so much i might die waiting for book 2. this was such a good book, it was so up my street, i loved every traumatic second of it. especially the (MULTIPLE??) plot twists at the end that i’m still reeling from

whilst cade and willa still stay no.1 for me, this is truly truly a close second. i loved theo and winter; i felt theo isnt elsie’s strongest MMC, but winter is probably my favourite of her FMCs! the storyline and the romance were lovely, making this a nice, easy “cowboy” (used loosely) romance read. it was so interesting to finally get winter’s story, loved it !!

i can’t decide if i love this or hate this but i definitely enjoyed it!! it did at times feel like there were a lot of pages for not a lot happening, but i still wanted to read on and i’ll definitely be picking up the second book. it did get a little repetitive at times and, in my opinion, all three of the main characters could do with being fleshed out and developed more; but it felt promising enough that i’d like to see how the story developed. i liked the world building and magic systems, and do find dark and villainous to be the right way to describe the MMCs. they did not shy away from being cruel and did not suddenly become soft and kind-hearted because of the FMC, which was a nice change from the “villain romances” have read before !!

in retrospect, the final plot twist was probably predictable, but still had me gagged
