Sadly, this book wasn't super great for me. It was very predictable and rather boring to listen to. If I didnt have the audio, I probably would've DNFD it. The characters were pretty one-note and stereotypical, and again this is a book labeled as a horror, when I would say its a mystery/Thriller. Yes, there were some horrific elements in it of course but not in that typical horror sense.

While the writing for this book was fantastic, I found myself pretty bored while listening to this audiobook. :(
Hungerstone is a retelling of the story Carmilla, and since I didnt know anything about the story or read the actual book, I think some of the journey was lost on me, and that's my fault honestly. There is a big theme of sexism and feminist rage in this book which I always love!! However, I didnt feel a connection to the characters whatsoever. This is classified as horror, and it is in a sense, but not the type of horror I enjoy reading.
I would still recommend this for people that enjoy a slower paced historical story filled with feminine rage.

I'm rather bored. The audio narrator is saving this book for me. How is a vampire book so boring?

4.5 stars.
I LOVED THIS BOOK. The writing was so engaging and kept me wanting to read it any chance I could get. There are 3 different POV's that take place from 1987 to 2022 in this book and the author did a great job at making sure all 3 POV's and timelines were evenly represented which is SO IMPORTANT in a story like this. I liked all the POV's equally (and once you read this book you'll understand why).
The concept of how important naming a child is, and how it could change the trajectory of their life was so unique and interesting. The author did a great job at bringing back this point throughout the different POV's. It makes you think about whether actually naming a child after someone in your life could affect how they grow up, behave, and become as an adult. As a person who was named after someone it really got me thinking of how I've lived my life in attempting to represent this person within my life too.
There were many moments where I was shocked, and my mouth dropped open which I always want in a book. I do think me not reading the synopsis helped with some of those reveals, because they would seem more obvious if I knew it, so I would suggest NOT reading the synopsis fully unless you have triggers, as there are some within the book in my opinion.

I'm really enjoying this book! The concept is so unique and fascinating. The fact that someone's name can alter the trajectory of not only their life, but others lives around them to!!
