i really enjoyed the concept of this book and each of the short stories. it reads like a simple episodic sitcom - i could see this being turned into a "good place" or "superstore" type of TV show.
I will say sometimes the short stories were really predictable or obvious but penny still couldn't guess what was happening which was 💀💀
would recommend as an easy cozy read with a lot of interesting world building and life lessons.

This is really feeling like a short episodic kdrama! It's kind of fun!

as much as I want to rate this as a solo, I've read manacled and cannot separate the two. this was a great adaptation with rich world building and sens writing continues to be so beautiful.
every character is consistent and tragic but I really struggled to emphathize or like anyone who was part of the eternal flame outside of Helena. I wish we saw more of the good and reasons why Helena loved and respected them all so much because they were awful to her, with no redeeming situations or qualities. everything was always her fault which made part 2 very difficult to read because I was just always angry and frustrated.
the overall world of alchemy and plot around the war was very engaging but at times lost me because I'm stupid, and I had to reread explanations a few times before I really got it (and sometimes I just pretended I understood it 😂)
overall this didn't alter my brain chemistry but it was a solid read. I tried really hard to separate it from the source material but it felt familiar, like a home that was slightly refurnished, which also meant the cuts didn't hit as hard.
