A profound story about loss of innocence, prejudice, and the dangers of unchecked human creation. This is a timeless classic that is still relevant today, as we continue to advance science and technology without regard for its benefits to the general public.

The descriptions were beautiful, and I felt so much for the creature. Despite being painted as the villain, he was the true victim in this story and I just felt so sad for him. Admittedly, there were a few points in the story that dragged a bit too much for me, and I found myself skinming through a few passages to get through it. (I'm sorry I didn't care about what countries and cities Victor traveled to.)

Overall, this was a fantasic read and deserves its place as a classic. It is unfortunate, though, that most (if not all) depictions of Frankenstein fail to do a true adaptation of this novel.

What a wonderful, wonderful intro to the Farseer trilogy, and it absolutely deserves all the hype it has received. This is a slow-burn, character-driven novel where Robin Hobb brings us along in Fitz's journey as he grows up and faces challenges stacked against him. Moreover, I quite enjoyed the memoir-style narrative—it makes for very interesting stylistic choices and moves the story along nicely. In fact, the way this story is SO slow does it so many favors because I don't feel like I'm rushing through every major plot point. It feels like I'm really watching Fitz grow and learn about the politics and the world around him, and feeling everything that he feels with such intense clarity.

Absolutely stellar read, and I'm glad I really took my time with it. Every character was so well-developed and given their chance to shine in their respective roles. Perfect for anyone that highly values character and world building. I just know the rest of the series will knock me out of the park!!
