I enjoyed the unique magic it was interesting learning about each wielders abilities. The setting and Historia itself is really different and I loved it. It was so refreshing to dive into a different atmosphere like Historia brings to the book. Margot and Nikolas were characters you could really engage with and their dynamic is really what kept me reading. Multiple POVs were great to help the story flow and unfold.
That being said I don't think I really caught the story as well as I could have. The world building was confusing and I often times felt like there was so much going on I couldn't really get my bearings. You kind of get thrown into the story and it takes a long time for it to start making sense. The story itself just didn't hit for me. Personally it was too confusing for me to really get invested in the storyline. It felt like there was so much going on at once I didn't really know what to try and focus on and figure out that it just lost my focus entirely.
Overall, I think this book and story could appeal and work for a lot of people. The world and magic itself is really wonderful and unique. I personally just didn't resonate with the storyline.

Um CARTER???? WTF MAN?!
This story really had me in a state of ??!! most of the time. Jocasta, quite literally Death's daughter, is trying to exist more in the world of the human side of her. Thinking the area is a dead zone for magic, she is sorely disappointed once other magical being come knocking. Learning of a future she's being chosen for, she can no longer be discreet about who she really is. Once she finds out her father has put her up for something she doesn't want and is bringing danger directly to her doorstep, Begrudgingly asking for help of those around her to fight off the chaos and destruction following her. Between love, betrayal, loss and fear, can she help keep the ones she cares about safe while trying to reclaim her future?
What I really liked about this was how different it was from most books I've read. I didn't really know what was going to happen and wasn't already overdone. Right out of the gate, I was like š§ and after that it was nonstop chaos. Jocasta seems like a pretty solid character and isn't overly feisty where it obnoxious but still a desire to prove herself.
I am DEFINITELY team Devin! The side characters were great and helped the story be really engaging.
What I didn't really like was not having a real good understanding of her familial ties. I would've liked to hear a bit more about her childhood with her mother, and wtf is up with her father? Hopefully we will get more of that in the 2nd book.
Overall I really enjoyed this and I want to know how Jocasta's story goes so I would love to read book 2.
