The concept of doing nothing as an occupation intrigued me. After all, at one point in life, it was my dream to do nothing (I was burnt out). Through his recollection of stories with his clients, I don't think rental person wasn't doing anything, no matter what he said. On top of people watching, he provided companionship to those in need of it. The author mentioned near the end of the memoir how wonderful it would be if people could do whatever they liked, not just him. Of course, reality is not that sweet but it was a nice thought.
While the memoir itself was somewhat forgettable, it did make me contemplate how much comfort mere presence can provide.

Y'all... YA ALL... đđ This book was SUCH a satisfying and exciting conclusion to the Queen's Thief series. I have so many thoughts, but mostly just:
chef's kiss đ¤đ¤đ¤
đĽ CHARACTERS If any other author were to change the narrator in every single book in a six book series, I would be deeply annoyed. But with MWT, I'm like, "Ok, girl, I know you've got another gem for me to meet đLet's go!" She really excels at writing underestimated characters who rise to be the hero of their own story by the end, and Pheris was no exception. I fell in love with him right away and absolutely devoured his character growth. Also, I was utterly delighted to be treated to so many scenes with all my favorite kings and queens together 𼰠So many hilarious and heartfelt moments mingled with the sorrowful and serious. A perfect balance that felt like just what I needed to be ready to say farewell to these incredible characters.
đ§ PLOT I mean, it rocked? Obviously đ¤ˇââď¸ I felt like this plot was the ultimate payoff to a full series of build up. The war was not only fascinating and felt so realistic, but I also understood all the political stakes in the background. Writing complex political intrigue between fictional kingdoms is one thing, doing it well and in a way readers can actually follow is another matter all together. MWT gets a đŻ on this one. And, need I even say it? The plot twists were, of course, DELICIOUS đ
Overall, I think this one has to rank right at the top with King of Attolia for my favorites of the whole series. Every book in the series is unique and extremely clever in its own way, but this one just felt so complete and the ending made my very happy 𼰠The danger, action, tension, growth, and heart were all so perfectly balanced. MWT is like a chef using every ingredient to its full potential to create the perfect dish with flavors that just burst off the plate (or page in this case).
Do yourself a ginormous favor this year, and read The Queen's Thief series. It's everything you want from a low fantasy: clever storytelling, memorable characters, mind-blowing plot twists, and immersive world building.
| Content Notes | âŞď¸There are a few battles and they're sometimes a little gruesome, but nothing is overly graphic. âŞď¸A character with disabilities is brutally bullied and abused (this improves throughout the story) âŞď¸As with the rest of the series, the fictional gods continue to play a significant role in the plot, including speaking to the characters in physical form and at temples. Characters are devout and pray to and respect these gods as they are portrayed as very real in the world. âŞď¸A character who has been dead for several years speaks to another character in a dream (this was the first time something like that was included and I was a little disappointed by it) âŞď¸ Two men are in a romantic relationship which is described very briefly on one page (blink and you'll miss it, but this was also new and a bit disappointing to me). They very non-descriptively kiss once.

"God, please, don't ask me to write it all down again.
It's your turn to tell it, love."
Kind of obsessed with how this book is switching POVs
