Isn’t this book way too sad and heavy to be categorised under “cosy fantasy”?
I’m fairly new to the genre (discovered it only earlier this year and have read about 8 books), but I understood cosy fantasy as a fairly low stakes read. And even if the story gets dark at times, on balance it mostly fills you with warm fuzzies.
Am I right or am I too spoilt by the Legends & Lattes and Emily Wilde books? 🙈😄

I’m glad I finally got the chance to read this. It definitely sucked me in right from the beginning. Now I get why it’s considered a classic. Many of the themes remain relevant today and made the story stand out in my mind. The themes of grief and feeling like an outsider are things many people can still relate to today. I’m gonna try to check out more classics in the future.
