Am I just not understanding this or did this guy go to his landlord's house, uninvited and unwanted, in the middle of a snowstorm and then begged to stay over??? This is weird, no??

I feel like reading/listening to this book is best experienced when you have no expectations at all, so I'm just going to leave you with this series of quotes:
Language is what allows us to communicate. But it also limits what we can say, perhaps even how we feel. After all, how can we recognize a sentiment within ourselves that we have no word for? And perhaps, Joan thought, science is the same. Even the way we tell one another we want to live alongside them is limited by what we understand is possible in the world. What more could we say if we knew more about the universe?
And "Space belonged to no one, but Earth belonged to all of them."
Please read this book ❤️🌎 And prepare to have feelings.
Audiobook: 10/5 (yes I rated it double the amount of points because their performances are just THAT good)
Also: I DO NOT give out 5 stars very often. So take that as you will 😶🌫️

TJR is probably my favorite author. I waited forever to get this audiobook on Libby, so it was highly anticipated!! Overall, I loved it. It wasn't necessarily what I was expecting, but I loved the characters, I loved the romance, I loved the astronomical setting, I loved the niece, I loved the message. What I didn't love was the ending, but I'll avoid saying too much because I don't want to spoil anything. [Basically I wish it was someone else with Vanessa in the spaceship (because Lydia was awful), I felt like the last few moments before the "big decision" were super repetitive and took me out of the story a bit, and I wish it ended differently just so as to not be so cookie cutter. Also we NEED an epilogue!!!!] But I think this is one I'll think about for a while. It really transported me to that world. And it's narrated by Julia Whelan so enough said about that.

2026 Re-Read: I liked it much more this time!! I really enjoyed the historical aspect and the unique storytelling of the letters. I still agree with 2019 me that said the characters were too perfect and the ending did feel a little rushed. But I'm adding a star!
2019 Review: I finally picked this up due to several glowing reviews and recommendations, but unfortunately I was wholly disappointed. I struggled to even finish. Sure, it was quite charming, but all in all, I felt like the characters were too perfect and bland, the letter writing could have been much more varied and exciting, and the plot was boring. Also, the ending felt rushed and unfinished. I'll probably watch the movie to compare, but this book was not for me.
