Genuinely one of the most boring books I have ever read my god, had to skim through the last pages because I was so done with everything that was happening

I went into this expecting a story about identity crisis or a character completely detached from human emotions. But that’s not what I found. He actually understands people very well and knows exactly how they think and act. He can even fake or mask himself through a kind of performative humor. He isn’t lost because he can’t connect; he’s lost because he refuses to take responsibility for his own feelings, his own significance, and his place in the world.
It’s not that the book is bad, but it left me cold. I couldn’t feel any real sympathy for him, only frustration. Maybe that’s the point, but it still made for a tiring read.

This book was a difficult read at first. I got it as a present from someone struggling with OCD and it really made sense when you put it into perspective. The writing felt raw and unfiltered, sometimes the scenes and their detail would make me uncomfortable. I felt weird when it ended.

Wow, what an amazing, powerful story for young people to read. I know this was written in the 60s, but it has striking parallels to today’s world—how to use your love to resist authoritarianism, sameness (white supremacy). Our differences make us interesting, they provide us with joy and something to share with others. Our differences can build community if we let them. And our love can be the thing that pulls us out of the darkness.

Is that a thing? I am deeply uneducated on religion.

this is like when you watch a horror movie and the protagonist is so stupid it makes the whole experience a living hell except a movie is quick and painless, a book....... dragging my feet through it.......most stupid protagonist award goes to this nun

I found the book easy to read and follow. It was a nice pace and even though, you had to piece things together, it wasn't confusing to the point of causing frustration. I had some ideas of how it would go, then the story turned out like nothing I had predicted. Until the very last page, I wasn't sure what to expect and how to feel about it.
