I've officially entered hibernation mode and that means starting a bunch of books and seeing which ones stick. I need something funny and light to counteract a heavier book, so here we are. I'm exactly 5 minutes in and I've already giggled, so off to a good start!

Magicas are born, not made. Your parents cannot be magicas, but you can be born one. It’s not necessarily hereditary. Everyone seems to no one, or have one in the family. Some have magic powers that are obscure.

So Magicas are… gay people?? /jk

In seriousness, it seems the Magica/Magika? (Im listening to the audiobook) are a good allegory for many marginalized groups?

  • guys recommend me a starter romance book.

i’ve been a reader for a loooong time and recently made a condition with my bestie that if i start gymming with her, she reads a book of my choice for every week i show up diligently. guess who just finished their week 1. 💪💪

i thought ali hazelwood is a good starter romance for her but she’s a fashion designer girlie so maybe stem series might not be her thing. but then again, anything i look at seems to me she wouldn’t enjoy it since she’s not really a reader. at best, she’s read all the compulsory readings in school and never touched a book ever again in her life and i wanna change that. make myself a diy book bestie eheheh jkjk.

please gimme your personal suggestions and faves that you think would interest a non reader, thank you ! 🫶

I felt this book was very ambitious, and I think I loved it more for it.

In the tradition of Austen, this book had romance, but also social commentary and an exploration of intergenerational family dynamics. How isolation and shame may hurt the individual, but it also snow balls to hurt the whole (a no spoilers example).

I enjoyed seeing Nada balance between finding out the life she wanted while also compromising with the expectations of her community because at the end of the day, it wasn’t either or. She loved both: herself and her community. 💕

I loved how the poetry of the original was incorporated into this through music. 🎶

I just loved this book very much. 💕 I don’t think I could get all my thoughts out. This book increased my interest even more to read the rest of Jalaluddin’s oeuvre.
