i am having a genuinely hard time continuing this 😭 i feel like it’s been all tell and not show which has made it incredibly difficult for me to get drawn into the novel. i feel like i read for an hour and im like 1% farther into the book. does it get more interesting?

I’ve been listening to an audiobook lately that has a narrator whose voice just sets my teeth on edge. I have had a couple bad ones but this one is making me consider going out and buying a physical copy or just straight up DNF. Has anyone else here had this issue? It feels like a very easy thing to fix (read the book instead of listening to it) but now I’ve got the narrator’s tone and cadence stuck in my head.

I am so curious about this and I am dying to know how other people read? as in do you listen to music, do you read in complete silence, or do you do something else while you read?
For me personally it depends. Most of the time I will listen to rain sounds or brown noise playlists, sometimes I will also listen to music but it has to be certain songs that I don’t get distracted by. Songs that I can actually listen to are usually instrumental versions of my favorite songs, lately it’s been an instrumental version of the twilight soundtrack. On occasion I will also read in complete silence if sounds are overwhelming that day.
