I had high expectations for this one, as I knew in advance this would be the first time you get each of the crew's separate POVs! Unfortunately the story itself didn't really grab me and I wasn't too invested in each of their own separate stories, though Alex' was the most interesting. I think I've gotten what I wanted from this series and I'll stop here.

So much and yet so little happened đ I really loved the first book, and the complaints I heard about this one was that it was a lot more introspective and had very little action, and I never worried because that is actually what I'm into! There just was so much going on in the world that I had a hard time caring for with occasional interesting moments, but overall nothing much that I am super excited about. What does this mean for book 3?

What was the point it was trying to make? Who is this for? It feels like it's trying to appeal to everyone and yet to a very niche type of people all at once. It tries to be actionable and gives you things to think about, but that is more for either business owners or people already working with data, in which case this book tells you nothing new whatsoever. It feels like a data scientist trying to convince you that his job is cool. I didn't like the narration either. I would not have gone with the choice of having the author also narrate the book.

My enjoyment of The Expanse novels greatly depends on whether I enjoyed the story in each one - which makes sense but with this I mean that I think our main characters still lack that depth I usually search for, and that's what I'm missing. We're already four books in and I barely know anything about our crew except for Holden himself. I however have great expectations for the next one which is going to be my make or break for this series.

Nowadays I use audiobooks to get a bit out of my comfort zone and explore genres I don't usually delve into (and whatever audiobook is on sale at the time) - this time, romance! This was cute. Nothing groundbreaking. Extremely predictable. But cute nonetheless! Very lighthearted.

Unfortunately could not get that much into the story or the writing, though I had high expectations as this was recommended as for fans of Robin Hobb. I do get the comparisons, but for some reason I just didn't vibe with it as much as I expected it to. I do think it is unique and I enjoyed my time with it.

I can't pinpont it as to why, but although the narration by Stephen Fry was as wonderful as ever, I couldn't really get into this one. Maybe I just don't find Odysseus that interesting of a character. I preferred when the mythology was told in a bunch of different stories instead of one overarching one.

I have a hard time judging this as it was mostly hit or miss for me. I kind of liked the structure that you immediately just jump into the main act of the story while what would have usually been buildup is instead brought to you in the form of flashbacks. That does make it that you don't really care about the characters until you get to their flashbacks, but that didn't bother me too much. Peter was a character I was interested in from the beginning. Alice just became more worrying the further we got. I also really liked Elspeth!
The book did suffer from a certain character's absence in the third half, and it made the pacing issues abundantly clear. During that point I debated on two star rating this because I just had trouble caring. The very last chapter is a bit cheesy and made me realize that the execution of the story I would have probably preferred if another author tackled this idea, because the idea itself is very interesting. The story itself just had a few issues in pacing mostly. There were also a bit too many miscommunication issues that just could have been so easily resolved and it got very frustrating.
Read this for book club!

Also a lot of "it's not worth justifying myself" going on that could clear up confusion. The Peter thing with the exchange, Alice and Professor Grimes seen "getting close". Please just explain yourselves!! đ

I'm interested to know more about Peter. I hope we get more from his POV. Alice becomes more worrying the further I go. "She wanted Professor Grimes to devour her" yikes
