Hello~ Thought I'd share the author letter that came in the Illumicrate edition of the novel for your enjoyment~
Dear Illumicrate Reader, I grew up on novels that rarely centered women. On the infrequent occasion that they did, the message was clear--they exsited as an emblem of goodness, of kindness, of nobility. They could be heroines, so long as their journey ended either in motherhood or sacrifice. They were not allowed to be villains--or even do morally questionable things--not unless they were punished. This is not one of those novels. This is a love letter to feminine rage. To queer love. To hunger, in all its many shapes. It's a love letter to the women I wish I'd read. When I was seventeen. Or twenty-seven. Or thirty-five, the age I was when I sat down to write it (if you do ot see the story that sees you, that is what you do). This is a story about women who want. Women who hunger. Women who take their lives, their stories, into their own hands. Who do not settle for the cards they've been dealt, but change the nature of the game. Women who rebel against their time periods. Against their lives. Against death itself. I am willing to bet you will not love all three figures at the center of this story. You might not even like them. But I hope each one speaks to you in their own way. I hope they get under your skin. I hope this story is a seed dropped into the soil of your mind. Maybe it will throw roots. Maybe you will grow a little wilder, a little bolder, a little hungrier. No matter how, I can't wait to see you bloom.
