flat out the most gorgeous book ever written. Zora Neale Hurston is the blueprint.

Violet LeVoit is an incredibly stylish, gutsy writer, and I loved the conversations in this book. i don’t find LA or the pathology of its dwellers to be particularly interesting though, which made it a little irritating sometimes. the ending is a little clumsy, but the vileness of the language made it an experiece.

gorgeous mood piece, but gets in its own way by the end.

this book was darkly hilarious. Damilare Kuku’s voice is so funny, harsh, charismatic. the story is very deeply sad. the women in the heroine’s family have all been shaped the violence, both psychic and physical, that permeates women’s lives in Nigeria. so many missed opportunities for understanding and solidarity. the book has a light touch, but it also means business.
