Possibly the most criminally misunderstood classic literature in the context of cultural canon. What is often thought of and even outright named the most romantic story of all time, is actually an incredibly bleak story about the impact of Cathy and Heathcliff's toxic "love" for one another on almost every person who came into contact with it (& even some who didn't!).
An absolute masterpiece in gothic literature, the perfect winter read. If you're a fan of drama-heavy plot and of a strong enough mental headspace to take what is sometimes unending bleakness, you won't be disappointed! There is, sort of maybe, a happy ending. It kind of depends on your opinions of some of the characters (none of which are without flaws, some worse than others), I personally think it ends about as happily as a story like this could!

An absolutely incredible book. The writing is so descriptive, it's poetic and almost felt like it was hypnotising. The characters are incredibly well written. The way in which the timelines effortlessly intertwine, getting closer and closer together until they crash into each other in the final chapters... incredible!
Will make you cry, will make you laugh, will make you both adore and despise humanity.
