HEHEHEHEH i'm having so much fun.
honestly this is just a classic YA fantasy with a romantic subplot. Like it's so easily enjoyable and fun and I'm having a little nostalgia when reading this. It's really simple, fast paced, and easy to follow so far and that just makes it all the more fun for me.
absolutely loving this so far (in british accent)

okay the plot is a lil jumpy but honestly im having a pretty good time. The third POV is a lil boring but the chapters aren’t too long so im sure it’ll be fine. The two other characters have finally met yay

oooooof (complementary) this book was GOOD.
I love basically EVERYTHING about this book. It's probably a 4.25 if I'm being honest but it's leaning towards a 4.5. I adore so many things in regards to this book.
For one, the premise. So cool, and executed SO well. I found this book in the library without ever seeing it before and I love it when a book I have no judgment of prior ends up being one of my all time favourites. Worst part about it? I've yet to see any video about this book besides like two. Unacceptable. Everyone should read this if they want a good YA contemporary fantasy with excellent characters and a really strong found family.
That's also a highlight. The CHARACTERS are AWESOME. Both Eli and Malcom are equally interesting protagonists (though I think I'm a bit more of an Eli fan because I love an mc with an angsty backstory or just straight up no memory of their past at all). But the side characters? Incredibly written. Their personalities are so distinct from each other but they match each others energies so well.
I am so upset there is no sequel yet. Especially with THAT ending?!

how do you guys feel about tropes like the chosen one, amnesia, and the mentor archetype? I know they're seen as tired and redundant but having seen so much enemies to lovers, one bed, knife to throat, banter, etc ... I'm tired of it haha. I think the former tropes could be really cool subverted and I'm starting to come back to them lol.
