samiah and london cheering up taylor is what every girl needs. having strong friendships is important. reminds me of Kennedy Ryan’s Syland series.

although in good faith, samiah’s dad’s words did a number on her. because this “i can do bad all by myself” attitude gotta ease up a bit.

this dialogue between samiah and daniel about being a Black woman in STEM makes me feel seen. especially the part about him assuming she places the pressure to be perfect on herself and she explains that she doesn’t. Rochon describes exactly what it feels like to be in these spaces only to automatically be seen as a representation for all Black women at all times. i also like how she acknowledges that while Daniel is a man of color and has his own experiences in STEM, he still vocalizes from his POV that he initially can’t fully grasp how the intersectionality of race and gender can compound their experiences. Ali Hazelwood books are my favorite for pointing out the gender side of this but this detail about samiah’s race and gender here is important. feels good to be seen!
