This might be one of the best paranormal romances I've ever read. I think what surprised me the most was I did not care about Brenna or Judd when I first started (so much so that I was considering DNFing) but I kept going and soon found myself so invested in their relationship. I loved Judd and how much he grows throughout the book. Their relationship was a slow burn but the payoff is so worth it and the epilogue was perfect.

I didn't like the sequel as much as the first book but it was still fun. It's a little confusing at times but overall I really enjoy the world-building, the politics, and seeing the overarching plot develop.

This was my first introduction to Nalini Singh's work and I'm so happy I decided to start this series because it was everything that I wanted. It was such good blend of romance, amazing world-building, intriguing plot, spice, etc. I loved the mixture of paranormal, fantasy, science-fiction, and even some dystopian themes as well. I loved Lucas and Sascha; although, I did find their relationship to be a bit insta-lovey/insta-lusty for me. Overall, I'm so excited to read more of this series.

Although I would say this was fairly fast-paced, I was struggling throughout this book. I really wanted to DNF multiple times but I pushed through and I'm glad because I enjoyed the ending. Overall, I get what Hazelwood was going for but I think the execution fell flat for me unfortunately.

This was THE perfect book to get me out of my reading slump. This had the perfect amount of tension, conflict, slow burn, spice, humor, etc. The pacing and progression/development of their relationship was so well done. I was so impressed and the ending was such a satisfying way to complete their story. Tessa Dare is slowly becoming my favorite historical romance author (and for good reason).
