this book was such a great ending to the book series. probably even the best book of the series, if i'm being honest. i enjoyed myself so much! literallly finished it in one sitting... i forgot to drink my water and now i have a headache lmao.
at first i was very sceptical about the direction where this story will take us, but after whatever happened after chapter 11 changed my mind. i was HOOKED, i tell ya. i love the realisation that there's lot in stake and the characters have a lot to lose. it adds a certain oomph to the reading exeprience. i'm not lying when i say i was on the edge of my seat screaming voicemails to my bff's chat. just... crazy.
imma need a few moments to think and compose myself after this one. i'm glad my bff told me about this series that brought us even closer together. i'm picking the next book series, so hopefully he will have a great time like i did just now reading this series.

the writing was so immaculate i could NOT put the book down – quite literally finished it one day!
i’m heartbroken. i knew what i was getting into and yet… and yet i’m in shambles. i love how every little detail, every character fits together into a bigger picture. i enjoyed stories from the characters’ lives and the explanations as to why they are the way they are. it makes you think that not everything is all black and white.
pecola’s story broke me. she was failed by every single person in her life. her story is the story of many girls. it definitely made me think.
i personally thought cholly’s chapter kind of dragged on a bit… i would much rather have more backstory to either another character or more in-depth story to one of the girl protagonists.
random note: i knew the moment i saw a character with my name (pauline) things would get ugly… characters with my name never get good endings. 😭
[edit]: pecola, girl, don’t cry over not having blue eyes. they’re terrifying, anyway. brown eyes are much better. 🙂↕️

“along with the idea of romantic love, she was introduced to another— physical beauty. probably the most destructive ideas in the history of human thought. both originated in envy, thrived in insecurity, and ended in disillusion.”
word for word.

i liked this more than i thought i would. the premise was promising and interesting to read but i wish it had been done a bit better.
i'm the minority of readers that enjoyed the first part more. i was drawn to our nameless character's journey and her fight to survive. the second part was really good, very emotional, and i can tell it came from the bottom of the author's heart. i myself have gone through a similar experience: grieving for my grandfather when he was right there. but, in my opinion, it didn't add anything to the delevopment of the plot. it felt underwhelming. also, i'm not sure if i would market this as a sapphic vampire romance. the romance aspect of this book is very limited, especially the one between our two female protagonists. but i still enjoyed it! sometimes less is more.
