Lmao I’m only on Queen of Shadows, but the romance aspect does not improve, imo 😅 the rest of the plot does improve significantly at least!

Plot-wise, the first book isn’t a good indication of the rest of the series. Like everyone else says, this is a drop in the bucket to everything that’s to come. Pacing-wise, this is an excellent example of the rest of the series! Each book drags for the first 3/4 and then the last bit is crazy and hooks you in. And then you start a new book that’s slow as hell! I think you definitely should finish this one and then see how you feel though. IMO, this series is not even remotely worth the hype, but plenty of people adore it, so it’s just personal preference!

I think start the second book, but if you’re still not feeling it, 10000% you should DNF. These books are NOT for everyone, even those who enjoyed ACOTAR. And yes, the books do improve, but not that much. The pace stays slow. The plot stays jumbled. The characters you don’t like remain unlikable. As someone who read the entire series waiting for it to get better, it never really did, so I’m very pro-not finishing the series if it’s not for you!!!
