I will just note - I love this cover from the FSG version of this book so much. This photo perfectly captures Muriel Spark's aura.

When I was a kid, my absolute favorite books were the Moorchild, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and A Little Princess. I haven't read them as an adult, except last year I listened to the audio book version of the Moorchild, which of course gave me a whole new perspective on it but which I still loved.
This made me want to reread my other two favorites, and then I got to thinking, how fun would it be to have a kind of forum or read along or challenge where we revisit books from our childhoods 🥹
So I wanted to ask what books everyone enjoyed as a kid and if anyone would be interested in rereading their favorites 🤗

🧶 I’m looking for book recommendations that play with tenses, specifically time-oriented tenses. Not just past tense in one chapter and present in the next. I’m talking like movement /within/ a sentence itself. I’ve included an iconic example in the link above (“Many years later, as he faced the firing squad…”) but obvis there are more time-tripping artists out there. Share them with me! ✍️

Creepy crawling vines, sentient mushrooms, or a killer forest; no matter what shape they take, plants and fungi play a main part in these horror novels.

When someone asks me for a graphic novel recommendation it will always be this. I was excited to see that Lee Knox Ostertag had come out with a new book but wow none of his previous work could have prepared me for this. So beautiful, the art, the story line, the characters, everything it makes you feel. I also love how long it is, unlike some graphic novels that can be finished in about half an hour, deep dark makes you sit down and become so much more deeply invested in the characters.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. If you like truly unexpected plot twists and heart wrenching stories this is for you. It’s one of those books where the tone seeps into your life, and once it’s over (it’s a quick read) you’ll wish it weren’t.
