I am still not sure how I can add some of the self published e books I have read, to truly reflect my actual total of books read. Same goes for physical books that were published way before ISBN or ha8never been added to internet book spots.

I am so glad I picked this up from the to-be-read pile. It's got to have been at least 30 years since I last read this book. Now I am enjoying all of the San Francisco references that are only history at this point. And of course I love Kwan.

I read this for research and background for a future California memoir or novel, maybe one of each? I was frequently boggled by the plethora of information about many obscure issues, but was never not entertained. The history books in this series are not for the faint hearted. But they are definitely worth their weight (this volume was 631 pages of reading, not including the many indexes and end notes) in information. Every time I get sentimental for my home state of California, which I can no longer afford to reside in, I reach for a history book of the Golden State. This book is at the top of that list of books. Necessary reading for those who are serious about knowing a broad collection of facts about California.
