If youâve experienced abuse, particularly at the hands of men/those in a position of power above you, please take the time to carefully consider whether or not this the book for you.
I would consider myself to have come fairly far in my journey with therapy and coming to terms with the acts that were inflicted upon me over the course of my life. But even then, Alice consistently makes statements throughout this text that have me reeling and texting my therapist.
All this to say, please be kind to yourself. Your mental and physical health is definitely more important than a book.

I'm really having a harder time reading this than the other Austen books. For context : I've been reading Jane Austen books (almost continuously) for six months now and this is the last I have yet to finish. I think it's less catchy and easy to read than the others. But I will finish it and I hope I'll be happy with the rest !

What are your unhinged book cover icks?
I'm not talking stickers or people covers. I want the unhinged reason to not like a cover
For example: It gives me the biggest ick when it's a silhouette cover, and the designer has to include the name of who the silhouette is on the cover like we'll know who they are đ

I'm curious if any of you guys are able to really love a book while really hating the protagonist. I don't know I can seriously hate reading a protagonist and love a book, because if I intensely clash with the main character it tends to reflect poorly on the rest of the story for me. I disliked reading Johnny from House of Leaves so much that it worsened the whole book for me. He wasn't even particularly malicious or anything, just unenjoyable.
On the other hand... mostly every character in Wuthering Heights is kind of objectively awful and malicious. But they're entertaining and intentionally frustrating so it doesn't make my reading experience worse. I don't really "hate" them in that way.
What about you guys? Any protagonists that you hate in books that you love? Or is it a total deal breaker for you if you don't enjoy the characters?
