  • feminist book recos? :>

hi! i’m about to start with my thesis (shivers) this semester and i’m planning that it would also be focused on feminism (or ecofeminism, whichever topic will be approved by my adviser JDKDNDJ)

with this, i’d like to ask if you have any recommendations on books with feminist themes — something to motivate me in writing my thesis :”) books that talk about female bodies (how they’re treated in society, etc) or bodily autonomy? i’m more into reading fiction though i’m open to nonfiction recos too!

    thank u in advance <33

  • In Need of Recomendations for My Birthday!

Hello, it's my birthday, and I've received coupons from Kobo and Bookoutlet. 95% of the books I read are on my e-reader through my library. I'm hesitant to buy books because I fear I may not like them, so I prefer library copies. Recently, I have been trying to grow my physical collection. Since I have these coupons, I'd love to get books that I'd want to read. I find it hard to describe my tastes, but here are some books I've liked recently

    • The Caretaker (I'm new to horror but found this engaging)
    • My Husband by Maud Ventura (I love reading about characters that are a little bit unhinged; Julie Chan is Dead and Yesteryear fall into this category too)
    • Vicious by V. E. Schwab (I like morally grey characters)
    • The Strange Case of Jane O (Psychological thrillers)

So to summarize, I'm looking for psychological books where you follow a character and get to be in their mind. In terms of genre, I like speculative fiction & sci-fi (having to do with technology/the future, not aliens), and thrillers.

If it helps, you can also take a look at my profile.

    Thank you!

  • Birthday Reads 🎀⭐

Hey everyoneeeee!!🫶🏻 It's my 20th birthday. It still kinda feels funny in my head that I have turned 20 on 20th August (it just does, I don't know why 😭) My elder sister got me 3 books and my very first Manga. She also gave me a handmade bouquet🥹 and like those flowers are made so beautifully from craft papers, I wish I could attach its pic. I am soo happyyy. She also wrote short notes based on the books for me and now every book feels so special, i cannot decide which one to pick up first. I would be really happy to hear everyone's suggestions💞

    1) The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante 2) My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell 3) Green Dot by Madeleine Gray 4) Manga - NANA by Ai Yazawa Vol. 1

(Now this is very special to me. It's my first manga. I have watched the anime. Literally devoured it!! Everything about NANA feels so personal. I also got a NANA tshirt for my birthday. NANA is absolute love and I would be so glad if everyone gives its anime or manga a chance. But it is incomplete because the author went on a hiatus due to her health ig)

Ps: I am sorry if this felt irrelevant. But this is the first time I ever felt so excited for my birthday and i really really wanted to share it with everyone🩷

reading this book felt like growing up alongside em and dex, which basically also means wanting to bonk their heads at certain moments of their lives and wanting to hug them during others. i was kinda hoping for more though, character-wise? plot-wise? and there were instances that were… not it, y’know? ANYWAYS this book still left me #devastated (que screams)

oh, and i might just pick up the series after this… suddenly curious to see if it’s better than its source material (actually wants to suffer more) :>
