I am walking down a street. My face is cold and a tad uncomfortably moist from the non alcoholic sun cream and moisturiser and overpriced vitamin C face mask I peeled off just before coming on this walk. There is a long walk ahead of me that will be missing the audiobook of this book playing in my ear.
A man across the street from me is smoking. This would usually piss me off, but today it doesn’t, because I am feeling the cold emptiness of finishing this book.
Psychoanalyse me all you want, but I found this book hilarious. The satire is delightful, its themes clever, and its cynical world so vapid and meaningful at once.
Patrick is so despicable, occasionally relatable (his shallow self obsession, his human need to be perceived a certain way, his jealousy and lack of being in touch with humanity-), and so shallowly vain that reading through his voice is a remarkably entertaining experience.
