A not so simple question for you all Pagebound. Who turned you into a lifelong reader?
A teacher, a family member, a librarian? Can you remember what book it was that turned the light on?
My main reading influence was my maternal Grandmother and Aunt who used to read to me when they looked after me as a child and teen (to help with writing and language issues). The book that made me read as a teen was eitherPeeling the Onion by Wendy Orr or The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
Edit: I wish I had time to respond to everyone but there have been so many fantastic responses.

I am so curious about this and I am dying to know how other people read? as in do you listen to music, do you read in complete silence, or do you do something else while you read?
For me personally it depends. Most of the time I will listen to rain sounds or brown noise playlists, sometimes I will also listen to music but it has to be certain songs that I don’t get distracted by. Songs that I can actually listen to are usually instrumental versions of my favorite songs, lately it’s been an instrumental version of the twilight soundtrack. On occasion I will also read in complete silence if sounds are overwhelming that day.

How do yall deal with words you don’t know when you’re reading? Typically I’ll stop and look them up, but I’m realizing that I don’t retain them! I think I need a vocabulary notebook or something to have with me while I read. I’m curious about how others handle new vocabulary.
