the book took me quite a bit of time to finish. yes, the characters are bland, yes they have no character arc or much of a personality. however, the biggest problem was that the writing is so fragmented, so disjointed that it’s hard to keep up. the author talks about something, say, her younger brother in one paragraph, then jumps to yapping about her sad lover in the next, then hops to babbling about her angry mother in the next, then jumps back to where she had left off in the story about her younger brother. by george, it took everything in me to finish this book.

Do children in America actually call their parents sir (and, I assume, ma'am)?? It sounds so strange every time I hear it - it just seems impersonal and distant. I've only ever heard people calling their teachers sir.
