stories within stories within stories
this is a collection of books that contain more stories within their stories, almost like an endless corridor of doors that lead to more doors or an infinite matryoshka doll
(so far this is only books i've read myself that i feel fit this but i'm open to suggestions!!)

"Sister is a careful word. [...] You have to be slightly mad to love like that."
The easiest way to my heart is to write a story within a story within a story and this book did exactly that with beautiful prose and a captivating tale. It's a tale of sisterhood and of madness that spans time and space in a logic-defying capacity that is so stunningly written I couldn't put the book down. I loved the "mixed media" approach, it made me feel like I was on my own journey across the black sea, discovering these stories as I sail. Also, the concept of the whale of babel and the museum of collective memory are just so fucking cool, I can't stop thinking about it.

this had its ups and downs but ultimately it was very cute nothing groundbreaking, but i don't expect that from the romance novels i read so not an issue for me i did have some issues with the communication between these two at times but what would this genre be without some good ol miscommunication i guess also fuck gloriana

super interesting to read about this part of lesbian history and i particularly enjoyed how the author reflected the lessons and attitude from then on modern lesbian life, how much has changed and how much hasn't i'd recommend this to people who want to get started on nonfiction but are a bit scared of it, as this was a great mix of information, personal anecdotes and (in parts fictionalized) history i also commend that the author didn't shy away from less pretty aspects of lesbian life and history, really made for an interesting read!
