I read this in one sitting while on a train from Germany to Italy (which my reading experience benefitted from massively) and it truly felt like a magical escape. I loooove the way Erin Morgenstern writes and I've been putting off reading this because I didn't want to be out of books of hers to read next. But I couldn't resist any longer and I'm glad for this journey. I know a lot of people think her books are plotless and while I get that there's not a lot of on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of action happening, I think the story was really captivating and the characters drew you in right away. I'd love nothing more than a visit to Night Circus!

New Orleans has fascinated me ever since I spent a weekend there a couple years ago. It was vibrant and electric and full of music. But I was there for a weekend Au Pair class and our teacher was thorough so she didn't skip the unpleasant parts, only shortened them a bit. When I saw this memoir on the list for the Mardi Grad event I immediately knew this would be my next read because I've wanted to learn more ever since that weekend. I think Broom tells a very interesting family tale, though at times a bit jumbled and filled with so many names and people it was hard to keep track of them all, it feels warmly authentic. She's had a life with a plentiful of stories and it was a great read to dive into. Usually memoirs take me ages to finish, if I ever even pick one up, but this one hooked me quite well!
