“So, let me get this straight: You’re breaking up with me to be with someone who doesn’t exist?”
“Not to be with him,” I explain for the zillionth time. “Because of him.”

For some reason I didn't like this as much as I expected to, but that's definitely a timing thing. I typically love cozy stories, but right now I'm just kind of in a weird reading mood where all of the past few books I've read (various genres) have felt a little blah. And I kept thinking the stakes felt ridiculously low, to the point where I was annoyed feeling like things should have happened differently, and having to remind myself that this is a cozy fantasy.
All this to say that this was a really well done cozy fantasy. Very low stakes, warm characters, a setting that feels like a hug, and a sweet found family. The audiobook (narrated by the author) was also very well done. I'm not sure if the "Pages to Fill" chapter (after the epilogue) is in the physical book, but I enjoyed getting to see Viv before she opened the shop and the kind of person she already was.

I....have no idea what to say. This book did NOT go where I thought it would. It was not what I was expecting and I'm not sure how to qualify what it actually is. The characters were fascinating and so complex, there were so many layers to each woman and their choices. This book was a wild ride and I somehow have more questions now than when I started, but that's not a bad thing. I am so impressed that this was Sanders' debut, excited to see what she keeps writing.
