I just didn’t get this book. I think I need to sit on it a bit longer. The ending is confusing me and I did not enjoy reading this. It’s less grotesque than described though. Pretty tame considering what’s out there.

I’m evaluating this book not on its writing but on the message. If you’re into speculative fiction/tech dystopia, this is a good one. I feel like the book could have done without Jeffrey’s story and it would have been stronger. His arc was unnecessary and took a bit away from the overall thread. There are better and more grounded ways to show how “human-in-the-loop” can go wrong. That said, none of this is that far fetched when you think of how resigned a lot of us are to government-backed and technology-driven civil liberties and rights violations under the guise of a “better” something. Even a device as small and seemingly inconsequential as a health-monitoring ring is a starter kit and pilot for widespread surveillance
