I am looking for a recommendation of a great book that also has a solid movie adaptation. I love to read a book, watch the movie and compare the two. Any ideas???

Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Hopeful. It felt like a hug and a great encouragement to dream and work hard to believe in myself and in what I have to say.

Just curious what book people read as a child that made them feel like a grown-up reader for the first time. Up until 7th grade (1979 for me), I had been reading books by Lloyd Alexander, Susan Cooper, Madeline L'Engle, John Christopher, etc. Then I spotted the gorgeous Hildebrandt brothers' cover on The Sword of Shannara. I remember picking it up and being daunted by the size. Then I threw caution to the wind and checked it out. I never looked back. From there, I would dive headfirst into Science Fiction and Fantasy. Eventualy Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would lead me into mysteries.
While not too long after reading Sword of Shannara, I would discover The Lord of the Rings. Sword has always been my thing. Probably because I read it first and felt so accomplished for reading that chunky book.

I had not decided my next book yet, but I guess I'll read Dracula. I had started but never finished. I hope to get into more vampire literature this year!
