Almost too quick of a story but very beautifully written. I was shocked at how delicately crafted the story was and how easy it was to slip into Abigail’s narration. I would have appreciated more world-building as the gore and shock seemed to not land the way I would assume it would in the real world, heavily religious community or not. I found myself wondering why the books events were not as big of a deal than they were. I also was craving a better connection to the queer elements of the story. There are pieces there, but not ones put well enough together for something cohesive to walk away with. Overall pretty good for what the story came to do!

I really enjoyed this! I felt like the addition of some of the more modern contraptions was a bit odd, but I liked how quickly the story progressed and did what it came to do. The descriptions and prose was pretty lovely and I liked the overall arc and conclusion. I would probably read from this author again.

I’m loving how quick this story is progressing. I’m enjoying the Nettle & Bone vibes of the character and plot. I wish more stories could pick up the pace like this and let you enjoy the mystery and weirdness as it comes.

There’s little I love more than stories giving us little bites of magic, like the guardians and the birds and the general unknown!

  • The perfect quest does exist

As someone who has read countless fantasy novels, I am shocked at how many standalones I have not read. So excited to dive into these 🤩

Sometimes series can feel too overwhelming, and too big of a commitment. This is perfect for those looking for a book to scratch that fantasy itch without getting bogged down šŸ™ŒšŸ»

  • Do you rate books you’ve DNF’d?

I recently DNF’d a book at 85% because I just wasn’t enjoying it and didn’t feel like powering through the ending. I left a written review but I felt kinda weird leaving a star rating since I didn’t finish it. I do feel like I got through enough of it to give it an informed rating, but I’m curious if others have a personal policy about rating books you DNF. Personally I think that if you’ve read more than half of the book you probably have enough info to rate it, but sometimes you don’t have to get that far in to tell that a book isn’t very good. I just wasn’t sure what the etiquette is surrounding DNFs so I opted not to rate it, but I want to know what others think!
