I’m not going to lie, I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed Vektal and Georgie’s story. Georgie was a strong character was brave, smart, and a fighter. Vektal was swoon-worthy. He immediately knows Georgie is his mate, but he doesn’t force her into anything. He respects her right to have a choice and still dotes on her and ensures she’s taken care of in every aspect. 😏 I really enjoyed the author’s writing as well. It was great world building without being overwhelming. It was also a shorter novel and it didn’t feel like anything was rushed or unfinished. I will definitely be continuing the series at a later date. At times, the story felt a bit overshadowed by the almost excessive amount of sex the characters were partaking in. I definitely enjoyed the characters. The twins were a fun pair, really knowing how to both lift up and challenge a woman. Keir, on the other hand, frustrated me a bit since he seemed to have a lot of potential, but I was hoping to see more growth from him. Lillian was okay as the main female character, but I found myself enjoying her more as the story went on, especially in the second half. Even though the book ends on a cliffhanger, I’m not sure I’ll jump into the second book right away. Maybe I’ll pick it up later, but it didn’t grab me enough to make me rush into it right now. ⚠️ Warning: my safety information, shelves, and tags can be spoiler-y. Ember, will you do so? Will you give your soul to this place?” Summary — Ember is trapped in a marriage with a violent psychopath hellbent on beating her into being the “perfect” submissive housewife. After a particularly brutal beating she is locked in the attic and left to die. As she lay on the floor bleeding out she unknowingly calls out for help via a mystical card. Help arrives in the form of four delicious, villainous heroes: Diamond, Spade, Club, and Heart who all help her reclaim her power, but with a cost. This book has some dark, heavy themes so please check the warning list if you have any triggers. This book had a compelling concept, but the execution didn’t quite live up to its potential. I found it challenging to differentiate between the four male characters; they seemed underdeveloped and lacked the depth needed to make them stand out. Of the group, Spade felt like the most fleshed-out character (besides Ember herself). Although the story is told primarily from Ember’s perspective, it would have been much more engaging to get more insight into the men’s thoughts and experiences. Their voices felt a bit flat, and I think their viewpoints could have added depth to the narrative. There were also several plot points that left me with questions. For instance, Noah’s call occupies a lot of page time, so I expected him to play a more significant role in the story. However, after the characters return to the cirque, he’s never mentioned again. Additionally, I found myself wondering how Roger managed to find the cirque in the first place and why he was so intent on bringing Ember back. While I understand he saw her as a possession, he had previously expressed a desire for her death. If that was the case, why not just let her go and tell everyone she died? Overall, the book was an enjoyable ride, but not something I would revisit. ⚠️ Warning: my safety information, shelves, and tags can be spoiler-y. While the first chapter was definitely not enjoyable, and I personally would have preferred a different start, things picked up quickly after we got past the OM/OW drama. Once we moved past that, the story was a lot better. In fact, I pretended the first bit of the book just didn’t happen. I loved Damon. He was the perfect blend of morally gray and possessive, always ready to go to war for his wife, no matter the odds. I loved how fiercely protective he was. I also found Misty to be a fantastic character as well. Watching her evolve, letting go of her past, and embracing her future was great. The chemistry between the two of them was spot on with just the right amount of banter and spice to keep things interesting. ⚠️ Warning: my safety information, shelves, and tags can be spoiler-y. During a road trip through the quaint town of Ashford Falls, she crosses paths with billionaire Leo Kingsley. A whirlwind of events leads Ivy to inadvertently meet Leo’s family, who mistakenly believe she’s his fiancée. In an unexpected twist, Leo offers Ivy a proposition: pretend to be his fiancée for thirty days to help improve his family’s perception of him and in return, he’ll compensate her handsomely. ✔️ daddy dom x brat ✔️ fake relationship ✔️ small town ✔️ billionaire ✔️ age gap For the most part I loved the characters. There was a surprising amount of depth to them that I fully did not expect from this novel. Ivy was relatable in her grief and in her thought processes. I did find her constant goading and bratting to wear on my nerves a bit, but I understand why it was written into the story. I loved seeing the change in Leo and watching his character grow. I loved that he genuinely enjoys taking care of Ivy and cares for her deeply. They had funny, quick witted banter and I found myself giggling a time or two. I enjoyed the plot, although I did find bits and pieces to be unrealistic and that kind of took me out of the story a bit. I also wasn’t a fan of the constant reminder of the age gap. Once or twice probably would have sufficed. All in all I think this was a good, fun, low angst novel and I enjoyed it. I will be looking into what else Jeré Anthony has written as this is my first novel I’ve read by them. •·················•·················• Safety • • • • • • • 👩🏼‍❤️‍👨🏻 POV: dual first person 🧑‍🧒 Ages: 35H, 22h ✨ Virgins: none 👤 OM/OW: none 🗯️ Cheating: mentioned in passing, not within main characters 🏷️ Tropes: fake fiancée, small town, grumpy/sunshine, billionaire, age gap 🔥Kinks: daddy, bdsm, bondage, impact play 🚩Triggers: grief, childhood neglect, cancer, grief 💫 HEA: yes ❤️ 🌈 Epilogue: yes
