Lowest rating of a book I’ve given in this app. I wanted to give it a 2, but apparently every aspect of the rating don’t even reach 2. So, there you go.

Lowen is insufferable. I must applaud Hoover’s bravery in creating a main character so unlikeable and plain dumb, yet to some extent realistic. There are indeed people so miserable in their own life that they feel threatened by beautiful, successful women—then spend their whole life looking for that validation that they’re different and better than most of these “millennial women” but keep obsessing to BE the woman she despises. Buying a house with Verity’s insurance money? Buying a fucking lingerie with Verity’s credit card? Trying to be as hot as Verity? Breastfeeding her newborn for the first time while thinking of how Verity didn’t?

As for the book itself, if you’re actually looking for thriller and suspense, just use this book to rub yourself with, because apparently 80% of the content is about sex. And there’s nothing else is going on. It’s so SHALLOW. The sleepwalking plot is USELESS also btw. Hoover might want to give reader the doubt that it could be just her imagination due to her sleepwalking habit. But even that is not believable. Therefore, useless.

I like the twist about the manuscript being POSSIBLY a writing technique, and I like that it’s an open ending on Verity’s truth. However, Hoover wrote a terrible suspense/thriller book. Terrible. 1) There’s no actual suspense, 2) The whole thing ESPECIALLY the reveal to the mystery is being fed to us—like, “So, actually ☝🏼🤓…”

The whole thing about Jeremy and his obsession with having kids is also really weird… I was thinking he probably has breeding kink.

The epilogue is not truly needed. I had to force myself to finish the book (ever since the first fifteen pages, honestly). But at least I like how we can feel the dread for Lowen’s future without actually knowing what would happen.

I can’t believe I finished a 5-stars book (The Lamb) straight to this love affair drama. I should’ve loved myself better and never touch anything from Hoover for my whole life.
