I've never been more annoyed by a book in my LIFE. Everyone sucked, teenagers had wildly offensive takes that were never called out, and when they WERE called out it was for the wrong reasons! I also read this in Spanish—bought it from a great queer publishing house (kakao books), and it had a very pretty cover and edition, but the translation was TERRIBLE. I was going to say that teenagers don't talk like that, but to be honest NO ONE does. The only reason I didn't DNF is because I needed the satisfaction of finishing it and rating it one star. Even better on Pagebound, because I can go as low as 0.5!

I only wish it was longer!! I was so invested in these characters throughout the whole thing, and that made all the hardship that they face HARD to read, but I'm really really glad I stuck through it. The writing was beautiful and full of meaning, and I loved the exploration of class and discrimination. Bless that boy, I just want him to be okay!!

I love this series! I find Carl's hunches and "feelings" a little too convenient for the plot sometimes, but these books are still SO enjoyable. I'm so happy that we seem to get more and more moments of Carl and Donut comforting and being there for each other... Also some SUBSTANTIAL shocks and devastating scenes in this one... all in all a strong installment! Truly not looking forward to some of the plots that are being set up for the next few ones, however 😭😭

The writing was very beautiful, but I was sad/shocked/confused for a lot of the book, and by the end I was mostly just glad to be done
I did enjoy how original it was, and how many things it made me feel in such a short story... All in all, while I appreciate this for what it did, and I can see why it is some people's favorite book, this wasn't really for me
Also, do yourself a favor and check the trigger warnings before starting the book 💀

I loved the Lorelai Gilmore vibes of the main character—something I've been looking for for a while!! The characters in general really sold me on this... It's (sadly) weird to find a romance book where the MMC actually has a personality that doesn't feel like a cardboard cut out of everything else on the shelves right now. I loved that Miles was awkward and kind and serious but not against silliness!! This is an amazing choice for a romance book if you don't mind a heavy topic like grief being one of the central themes
